Dr Bhekani Mbuli
Business Development and Client Management Lead, Southern Africa
Dr Bhekani Mbuli is the Client Management and Business Development Lead for Southern Africa at Nina Jojer Africa. In this role, he drives the firm's regional market expansion, client advisory practice, and strategic partnership portfolios, guiding multinational clients through Africa's digital economy, advanced manufacturing, and energy transition sectors.
Before joining Nina Jojer Africa, Dr Mbuli served as a consultant and secretariat for premier continental bodies, including AUDA-NEPAD and the African Union High-Level Panel on Emerging Technologies (APET). A key architect of regional innovation strategies, he co-developed the African Union Artificial Intelligence Strategy & Roadmap and authored seminal policy frameworks, among others, on artificial intelligence, gene drive, water management, blockchain governance, renewable energy, and next-generation batteries. His deep understanding of political economy and regulatory dynamics allows him to translate complex tech-policy shifts into tangible commercial advantages for clients operating in competitive, highly sensitive environments.
Dr Mbuli leverages an extensive background as a university lecturer and researcher to deliver data-driven market intelligence and evidence-based guidance to clients, alongside practical, end-to-end entrepreneurial experience in localised manufacturing and value-chain development. This blend of scientific rigour, regulatory fluency, and operational insight enables him to deliver risk-mitigated strategies for scaling businesses in the subcontinent. He holds a PhD in Natural Sciences (Chemistry) from the University of Johannesburg and maintains an extensive network of high-level institutional relationships across Africa.
